Victorian Antique Silver Bridal Basket
A go to gift of the late 19th century: they would hold the petals for the flower girl and then get used to display the bride's bouquet during the reception before being used to display fruits, candies or small desserts once settled home.
This beauty has a ribbon and palms design in the center and a smooth edge.
The middle is engraved with the initials KP.
The movable handle is topped with a bamboo and floral design, moves well and can lay flat for storage.
It is stamped on the bottom "Rogers Smith & Co. New-Haven Ct N° 1785", which dates the item to 1862 to 1877 making it almost 150 years old at the least!
The item measures 6.5'' - 16.5cm tall (12" - 30.5cm with extended handle) and 9.5'' - 24.15cm wide.
Use as it was intended, as a display, as a fruits or desserts server, for jewelry, etc.
Condition: Fair VINTAGE
Some scuff marks and discoloration, along the edges mostly, consistent with a 150 years old item.
2 small dents where the top of the handle was too firmly pressed against the outer egde (on one side more than the other);
and some discoloration on the foot underneath.
