This
is a lovely antique leather cash box, dating to the late Victorian period,
circa 1900/1910. It is complete with its original working lock and key and has
two interior compartments for gold and silver.
The
exterior of the box has a textured black leather finish with a decorative
polished brass swing handle and plate to the lid and a round brass escutcheon
for the keyhole.
The
interior has two leather compartments in the same finish as the exterior which are
labelled in gilt italic script for ‘gold’ and ‘silver’ with matching leather
pull tabs.
The
inside of the lid holds a compartment made of watered blue silk and has ‘Notes’
written in gilt lettering.
The
lock and hinges are in excellent working order and the box locks securely with
its key.
