This is a lovely antique leather cash box, dating to the late Victorian period, circa 1900/1910. It is complete with its original working lock and key and has two interior compartments for gold and silver.

The exterior of the box has a textured black leather finish with a decorative polished brass swing handle and plate to the lid and a round brass escutcheon for the keyhole.

The interior has two leather compartments in the same finish as the exterior which are labelled in gilt italic script for ‘gold’ and ‘silver’ with matching leather pull tabs.

The inside of the lid holds a compartment made of watered blue silk and has ‘Notes’ written in gilt lettering.

The lock and hinges are in excellent working order and the box locks securely with its key.
