RARE Special 1930 Liverpool Cricket Club Programme Aigbuth Ground Golden Jubilee

A rare, genuine vintage 4-page programme published by Liverpool Cricket Club to mark the Golden Jubilee (50^th Anniversary) of the club’s Aigbuth Cricket Ground on Thursday 10 July 1930 (opened in 1880).

To mark the event, a novelty cricket match was held between Miss Mollie Ritchie’s XI and the former Lancashire County cricketer, Mr W.B. Stoddart’s XI. The men were disguised with heavy beards and silk top hats and batted with broomsticks. Following the cricket match was a quoiting match and an exhibition lawn tennis match.

The programme also contains “A Sketch of The Liverpool Cricket Club”, which is a three-page history of the club from 1807 until it moved to the Aigbuth Cricket Ground in 1880 (only one page is shown in the photos).

The programme is printed on heavy parchment-type paper/card. It comes with two scanned newspaper articles reporting the event.

Programme dimensions: 207mm x 144mm (8.15 x 5.66 inches).

Complete and in good condition (the programme has been folded in half and has a crease down its centre).

Liverpool Cricket Club is a cricket club in the city of Liverpool, England. The club has had four home grounds and since 1880 has been at Aigburth Cricket Ground. The club was founded in 1807 and was under the control of the merchants and ship owners of Liverpool, many of whom had been slave traders. The early history of the club was heavily influenced by the slave owner and railway director Hardman Earle. The club's most famous player is Ken Cranston, the former England Cricket Team captain. Noel Chavasse, a member, died in service during World War I, he was one of only three men to be awarded the Victoria Cross twice.
