* Mils compasses

A milliradian (mil) is an SI derived unit for angular measurement which is defined as a thousandth of a radian (0.001 radian).
Compasses graduated in Milliradians are generally used where very small angles are necessary for very accurate calculation of proportions, size and distance of a target which is required by the military for rifle and short distance artillery purposes for example.

A military compass is generally not suited for standard navigation for hikers, orienteers etc.
