PLEASE NOTE: This poster is an original vintage edition from 1980, not one of the recent cheap reproductions available elsewhere. Back in 1980, Castellane released an official series celebrating their most famous and striking poster designs from their history, on high quality matt paper stock. They were at the time mostly sold as promotional items to restaurants and bars.

ARTIST:

The artist is ‘Eric’ (Raoul Eric Castel) (1915 – 1997), who was a renowned artist in the field of advertising posters, creating some of the most striking and memorable images in 20th Century advertising. He created the original artwork for this poster in the early 1920s.

ADVERTISING BRAND:

De Castellane is a renowned Champagne producer based in the Épernay region of Champagne in France. The house, founded in 1895 by the Viscount Florens de Castellane, still uses its instantly recognisable red Saint-Andrews cross for its branding, as a tribute to the standard of the oldest regiment in the Champagne region.

The house produces both vintage and non-vintage cuvee as well as a blanc de blancs Chardonnay Champagne. It is currently under the ownership of Laurent-Perrier.

CONDITION (PLEASE STUDY THE PHOTOGRAPHS CAREFULLY, AS THEY FORM PART OF THE DESCRIPTION. I HAVE DONE MY UTMOST BEST TO PHOTOGRAPH ALL BLEMISHES):

In very good condition, especially for a 40+ year old poster. There are no tears or holes. It has been rolled up in a cardboard tube for decades. Shows some minor cosmetic blemishes, mostly towards the edges at the back of the poster. There is a small (approx. 2.5cm) crease to the top centre, and one to the bottom left corner. None of these blemishes detract from this beautiful vintage poster – and would be especially unnoticeable once the piece is framed for display.

Will be sent in sturdy cardboard tube, via insured courier.
