The High Pressure Fuel Pump is used in the TFSI engine. Its function is to pressurize the fuel from the electric fuel pump to 150-200bar, which is easy to atomize and spray and adapt to the working characteristics of the TFSI engine. High pressure fuel pumps are generally driven by camshaft.
However, the high pressure fuel pump have a limited life.If you notice any of the following signs with your car:
1.Delayed start of the engine.
2.Hesitation or sputtering in acceleration between 2000 RPM to 4000 RPM.
3.High engine temperatures.
4.Vehicle stalling due to exertion or temperature.
5.Fuel pressure gauge reading low measurements.
6.Poor gas mileage
This may indicate that you need to replace the fuel pump
High Pressure Fuel Pump Replacement Guideline:
High pressure oil pump removal steps
[Before removing high pressure fuel pump, release high pressure system fuel pressure]

Step 1:Remove the engine cover, remove the air filter housing, and disconnect the negative connecting lead of the battery.

Step 2:Remove the wire harness from the air duct, loosen the screw clamp, and unscrew the bolt as shown by the arrow in the drawing.
Step 3:Loosen the hose clamp at the arrow on the way, and remove the pressurized air hose, and then remove the pressurized air hose.

Step 4:Remove the high pressure pipe fixing clamp fastening bolt at the arrow shown in.Fixate the high pressure pipe connector as shown in the figure below with a wrench, then remove the union nut at the arrow and disconnect the high pressure pipe connection from the high pressure fuel pump.
Step 5:Unplug the fuel pressure regulator connector as shown in the picture below, remove the fuel hose, unscrew the 2 fastening bolts as shown in the shears, and carefully pull out the high pressure pump.
Installation steps:
Step 1:Test the O-ring of the high pressure pump and soak it slightly with clean engine oil. Check whether there is any damage before inserting the roller taper, and replace it if necessary. Load the roller tappet into the vacuum pump, and make sure that the convex on the roller tappet alines the groove on the vacuum pump during assembly.
Step 2:Turn the crankshaft as far as possible until the roller tadpole is at the lowest point. Insert the high-pressure pump into the vacuum pump.
Step 3:Cross tighten the fastening bolts by hand, and then cross tighten the fastening bolts with the prescribed torque of 20N.m. Insert the fuel hose and secure it with a spring clamp. Connect the fuel pressure regulator plug.

Step 4:Soak the ball head of the high pressure pipeline with engine oil, install the high pressure pipeline, and tighten the lock nut of the fuel distributor with a wrench as indicated by the arrow in the drawing.
Step 5:Use a wrench to fix the connector of the high pressure pipe, and then use another wrench to tighten the union nut of the high pressure pipe.
Step 6:Install the high pressure pipe fixing clamp and tighten the fixing clamp bolt with torque of 5n.m.
Step 7:Other installation can be carried out in the reverse order of disassembly.
Frequently Asked Questions:
(1.)What is a high pressure fuel pump?
The high-pressure pump is supplied fuel by the electric pump. This pump generates the fuel pressure required for the high-pressure injector to provide optimum mixture of fuel and air directly into the cumbustion chamber. The HPP is typically located off of the fuel rail.
(2.)What causes high pressure fuel pump failure?
Fuel contamination: Fuel is jeopardized from corrosion, debris and moisture, which can all bring visible contaminants into the tank.
Clogged strainers/filters: The aforementioned contaminants eventually clog critical components including strainers, filters and the fuel pump itself.
