Have you noticed that other sellers of cover crop blend seed
only post pictures of the seed itself or of random stock photos- not
pictures of what actually grows???
(Please look at all shipping options, as some are cheaper than others and the cheapest one isn't always the default one in listings!)
Well,
guess what? We actually grow this stuff! We grow it in trays on soil,
as well as out in areas where our hens forage. (The area where they
forage also has random grasses, dock, and nettle growing.... so I didn't
take pictures of that area. The photos of the trays were recently grown
and quite neglected. They really dried out, but this stuff still grew!)
This Mid-West/Mid-Atlantic Cover Crop Blend Mix contains a selection of
legumes designed specifically for the cold, snowy winters and
hot, humid summers of southern Minnesota, Iowa, central and northern
Missouri, central and northern Illinois, southern Wisconsin, central and
northern Indiana, Ohio, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, southern New York,
Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut and northern New Jersey. This
mix produces excellent chicken forage that is naturally low-growing and
nutrient-dense, besides obviously being a green manure. It also contains common flax; a well-known source of
omega-3 fatty acids. Ideal for large acreages or small backyard plots.
Contains approximately:
23.62% red clover
23.25% common flax
23.15% alfalfa
12.50% peas
9.49% alsike clover
7.54% white clover
Plant in the pasture or in germination trays.
Excellent
for rotating hen grazing areas or planting in an area where they can
graze, but not scratch up the plants (such as under suspended wire mesh,
etc.), for replenishing small garden nutrients, for larger plots...
whatever you fancy!
One pound is estimated to cover 1000 square feet.
