DESCRIPTION

The second edition thus of this work, being the second edition republished with large additions by John Throsby. The first edition of Thoroton's work was published as 'The Antiquities of Nottinghamshire' in 1677.

Volume III only of a total of three volumes, lacking Volumes I and II.

A brilliant county history on Nottinghamshire, exploring the vast and colourful history of the county. The author, Robert Thoroton, belonged to an old Nottinghamshire family, who took their name from the small village Thoroton. 

This volume covers the Thurgarton Hundred, and the Bassetlaw Hundred, including the South Clay, North Clay, and Hatfield Divisions. 

Illustrated with a folding map to the frontispice, an engraved title page, and twenty-six plates.

Collated, all plates are present.


CONDITION

In a half calf binding with marbled paper to the boards. Externally, boards are detached but present. Boards and spine are rubbed. Loss of leather to the joints, extremities, and spines. Front endpaper is detaching. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very lightly age-toned with the occasional spot, mostly to the first and last few pages. Tide mark to the plates.
