This listing is for a lot of two (2) Lovellite Glass fragments (sometimes called “Wyoming Obsidian”). In 1928 the Big Horn Glass Factory in Lovell, Wyoming was destroyed in a devastating fire. The plant manufactured window glass and, according to lore, Coca Cola bottles. Once cooled, the melted glass was gathered by locals and some was sold to tourists. The following year was the start of the Great Depression, which prevented the rebuilding of the plant. The fire was hot enough that inclusions of the mineral wollastonite developed in some of the glass. Neither of these pieces contains inclusions. These pieces came from an old collection of local rocks purchased in Wyoming. Together they weigh 7 ounces. Ruler is shown for purposes of scale only.
