Cleaning a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) or Catalytic Converter (CAT) unit using BAC101 is a critical maintenance task to ensure a vehicle or engine's emission system operates efficiently.
Here is a comprehensive guide detailing each step of the process.
Tools and Materials Needed
- Safety gloves and goggles
- BAC101 spray pump
- Protective covering or tarps
- DPF fitting/tool kit 4mm/6mm (if necessary)
- Screwdriver, wrench or grips (for removing and reinstalling components)
- Disposable rags or paper towels
1. Preparation
Safety First: Wear safety gloves and goggles to protect yourself from the chemical cleaner.
Vehicle Positioning: Park the vehicle on a flat, stable surface. Ensure the engine is off and the exhaust system is cool to avoid burns.
2. Access the DPF Unit
Locate the DPF: The DPF unit is typically found in the exhaust system, either close to the engine or underneath the vehicle.
Remove Necessary Components: Depending on your vehicle model, you might need to remove protective covers or components to access the DPF. In many instances, you can access entry to the DPF through the o2 or pressure sensor lines, this gives much easier access through the engine bay, saving time and making the process far simpler.
3. Application of BAC101
Mix Part-1: To start, add 200ml of "A/B" chemical to the spray pump and fill with water to the 1.75l mark.
Shake the Cleaner: Before use, shake the spray bottle thoroughly to ensure it is well-mixed.
Insert the Cleaner: Depending on the vehicle, you may need a 4mm or specific DPF cleaning tool to insert the cleaner into the DPF unit. Take care to also check the downstream of the injection point. Some vehicles have a higher entry point for the o2 sensor than the head, which in some cases can cause fluid to flow into the head. THIS CAN CAUSE DAMAGE, so always check that you inject the fluid lower than the head so that there is no chance to hydro-lock the engine. If in doubt, contact us for advice; we are here to help).
Spray the Cleaner: Pump the spray bottle 15-30 times to build pressure, apply the cleaner directly into the DPF through the designated access port or remove the temperature or pressure sensor to insert the cleaner. Ensure even distribution by spraying in intervals.
4. Let the Cleaner Work
Soak Time: Allow the chemical cleaner to work, typically 15 minutes. This period allows the cleaner to break down soot, carbon and ash deposits inside the DPF.
High Soot/Ash levels: Allow a longer period of cleaning, 30-60 minutes will give the process enough time required to break down the high levels of contaminant and allow for a thorough clean.
Run the Engine: Start the engine and allow it to idle for 15 minutes in order for the chemicals to pass through the DPF and Cat cores.
Repeat Pt 3/4: Repeat sections 3 and 4 with part "C". Whilst Part A&B are designed to break down the contaminants within the DPF and Catalyst filters, part C is a "binding" agent designed and purposed to combine the ash, carbon, soot and oil within a slurry that exits the engine when running and "loading" pressure within the exhaust system.
5. Reassembly and Final Checks
Reinstall Components: Carefully reinstall any components you removed to access the DPF unit.
Inspect for Leaks: Check all connections and ensure there are no leaks around the sensors, DPF or exhaust system.
6. Regenerate the DPF
Drive the Vehicle: Start the engine and drive the vehicle at highway speeds for at least 20-30 minutes. This process helps in heating the DPF, allowing the cleaner and loosened particles to be expelled.
Monitor Dashboard Indicators: Pay attention to any warning lights on the dashboard. If the DPF warning light remains on, it may indicate the need for a diagnostic reset.
7. Post-Cleaning Maintenance
Regular Inspection: Regularly check the DPF and related components to ensure they are functioning properly.
Scheduled Cleaning: Incorporate DPF cleaning into your vehicle's regular maintenance schedule to prevent excessive buildup and maintain optimal performance.
By following these steps, you can effectively clean a vehicle’s DPF and Catalytic unit using BAC101 spray cleaner, ensuring better engine performance and compliance with emission standards.
Why BAC101 over other products?
Why Choose BAC101 Premium DPF and Cat Cleaner Over Cheaper Spray Cans?
BAC101 Premium DPF and Cat Cleaner stands out from the crowd of cheaper spray cans available on the market for several compelling reasons:
- Complete Cleaning Solution: Unlike spray cans that only address partial blockages, BAC101 is a unique 2-part system that effectively removes soot, carbon, oil, and ash – the four primary elements of DPF and Catalyst blockages. This ensures a thorough and comprehensive cleaning, leading to better performance and longer filter life.
- Up to 10,000% better results: With a typical liquid mass of 80ml within a 400ml can (the rest being the propellant to spray the cleaning chemical), there simply isn't enough chemical to allow anything more than a 5-10% clean of the filter.
- Superior Quality and Effectiveness: BAC101’s advanced formula is designed for professional-grade results, providing a deeper clean that cheaper spray cans simply can't match. The result is improved engine performance and reduced emissions.
- Cost Savings in the Long Run: While the initial cost might be higher than that of spray cans, BAC101’s efficiency reduces the need for frequent cleanings and costly replacements, saving you money over time.
- Enhanced Profit Margins for Professionals: For mechanics and garages, offering BAC101 as part of your service means delivering superior results to your customers, leading to higher satisfaction, repeat business, and better profit margins.
Why Choose BAC101 Premium DPF and Cat Cleaner Over High-Pressure Compressor-Based Systems?
BAC101 Premium DPF and Cat Cleaner offers a superior and safer alternative to high-pressure compressor-based cleaning systems:
- Gentle Yet Effective Cleaning: BAC101’s advanced 2-part system effectively removes soot, carbon, oil, and ash without the risk of damage. High-pressure systems can compromise the integrity of DPF and Catalyst cores, leading to costly repairs or replacements.
- Safety First: With BAC101, there’s no need to worry about the high-pressure risks associated with compressor systems. Our formula is designed to clean thoroughly and safely, preserving the lifespan and functionality of your filters.
- Ease of Use: Apply BAC101 directly without removing the filters, avoiding the complex and potentially damaging process of dismantling and reinstallation required by some compressor systems.
- Cost Savings: Avoid the high costs of compressor equipment and the potential expenses of repairing pressure-induced damage. BAC101 provides an economical and reliable solution that ensures long-term savings.
- Consistent Results: Enjoy dependable and high-quality cleaning with BAC101’s specialized formula, designed for optimal performance and safety. Compressor systems can vary in effectiveness and pose a risk to filter integrity with improper use.
Invest in BAC101 for a premium cleaning experience that ensures optimal performance, longevity, and cost-efficiency, making it the smart choice over cheaper, less effective alternatives.
