here is a Highly Collectible 1953 Vintage Swiss Longines 2049 Cal 9LT 17 Jewels 10K
GF Hour Glass Shaped Men’s Dress Watch
Longines
Watch Co. is one of the oldest watch manufactures from Switzerland with a
wonderful and unmatched history of invention, innovation, patents and awards.
Longines is known for some of the most beautiful watches ever made!
This vintage mid 1950’s timepiece is a perfect example. It has a stunning 10K
yellow gold filled angled rectangular case that is sharply angled towards the center
giving it an hourglass like profile. Lugs are angled as well. The angled theme continues with the original
crystal and dial as well. Dial is a beautiful silver with 4 quadrangles that have
lightly different hues across giving it a two tone look at certain angles. Dial
has a desirable seconds
sub-dial above the 6 marker. Hands are gold and markers are applied – a combination
of Arabic numerals (6,12) and non-numeric. Dial is signed LONGINES
– Logo – SWISS. It has been fitted with a good quality new Hirsch Crocograin Black Leather watch
band that complements the watch well. This amazing timepiece is powered by a 17
Jewels Swiss Longines caliber 9LT manual wind movement. The 8860763 movement
serial number dates it to 1953.
For a watch that is ~70 years old, it is in remarkable condition. Case has
light scratches but no plating loss. There are some micro nicks at the edges
that show on magnification. Angled crystal does have some scratches and some
grazing at the edges but is clear enough to comfortably read time. Dial has
some age related spotting that is not uncommon for a watch this old (see pic of
dial outside the case). The movement is very clean, winds well and keeps reasonably
good time for a vintage mechanical watch. Service history is unknown though. Watch
band is brand new. NO PERSONALIZATION.
This gorgeous watch appears to have been very selectively worn and well looked
after as it rightfully deserves.
I have included several pictures of the watch, case and movement. Please
review these carefully as they are part of the description. Please note that
all pictures are taken on the macro setting to show detail. This makes even the
slightest imperfections, shadows during photography, and specks of dust appear
much more prominent even though they are often not visible without
magnification.
It is not common to find a 50’s
vintage Luxury Swiss mechanical watch in this shape and working condition.
Don’t let this get away. It will make an admirable addition to any vintage
watch collection.
