The traditionalist style building with a rectangular ground plan was probably built according to Leon Johanson's design, analogous to the Palupera and Vaeküla station buildings. The buildings are characterized by a one- and two-story block consisting of a hipped roof and a standing board. On the lower floor of the station building were the offices of the station employees, as well as the ticket office, the baggage reception desk, a spacious waiting room and a buffet room. The station master's office was on the second floor of the building. The Kaarepere station building is the only one of its type that has survived to this day and is used as a residential building.

In the 1960s, 15 people worked at Kaarepere station: the station master, five station managers and nine switchmen.
