RPPC Postcard, BALLON RACE No. 1, AERO PARK, NORTH ADAMS, MA, N.A.A.C.,1908
Super cool black and white (sepia) RPPC postcard from 1908 of Balloon North Adams No. 1 READY TO LEAVE THE GROUND AT AERO PARK, North Adams, Massachusetts. The photo was presumably taken the day of the famous first point-to-point ballon race in the U.S., August 14, 1908, during which the North Adams Balloon No. 1 won the race. N.A.A.C. stands for the North Adams Aero Club founded earlier that year. The card was copyrighted by C. M. Whitmore in 1908. The back shows a postmark in October 1908 mailed from North Adams. The written inscription reads: "We arrived safe and had a pleasant ride. George"
Very nice historically important card. Another copy of this postcard is featured in the article "History of Ballooning in Springfield and
Western Massachusetts, 1852-2000," by Joseph Carvalho III, Historical Journal of Massachusetts, Winter 2023. Please review all pictures for condition issues, including noted pin hole. The first two pictures are from a scanner and the remaining are from my cell phone.
