DESCRIPTION

The first edition of this work. A rare and pleasing survivor in the original paper covered boards.

An interesting early nineteenth century study into the etymology of many words in the English language.

The author uses this work to trace the descent of English words, and their affinity with the different Gothic dialects spoken in Europe.

From the word 'a' to 'zinc'.

Written by John Thomson, who was the Private Secretary to the Marquis of Hastings in India.


CONDITION

In the original paper-covered boards, rebacked. Externally, generally smart, with some light rubbing and minor marks. A little bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. Pastedowns are a little worn. Chip to the rear endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are lightly age-toned and generally clean with a few odd spots.
