The Dell R720 (16x2.5) SFF server features a dual-processor 2U platform that is highly adaptable and expandable for highly virtualized environments.
Supporting the Intel Xeon E5-2600 or E5-2600 v2 processor family, DDR3 memory, and optional dual RAID controllers, this system can easily handle mission-critical workloads, serving the needs of e-commerce, data warehousing, and virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) databases.
Server processing power
The entire Xeon E5 2600 and E5 2600 v2 processor family is supported, allowing administrators to choose between Advanced, Standard, and Basic models depending on budget and performance needs.
This server supports DDR3 memory, operating at speeds up to 1866 MHz. Dell's patented Fault Resilient Memory creates a protected memory zone on the hypervisor without allocating half of the available system memory.
DPAT, Dell's processor acceleration technology, minimizes the impact of Intel Turbo Boost transitions that can increase mechanical latency and allows administrators to fix the number of active processor cores, providing smoother performance.
Additionally, the Dell PERC RAID controller with CacheCade improves overall read operations for a significant performance boost.
CacheCade v1.0 delivers higher performance and accelerates read-intensive applications and is supported on the 1GB PERC H710p and H810 cards.
Advanced I/O capabilities
The Dell R720 supports 24 DIMMs in a dual processor configuration. With all 24 DIMMs equipped with 32GB memory modules, a maximum of 764GB of memory is available.
Six hot-swappable fans keep the system running smoothly. It also supports Dell's Fresh Air feature, which allows systems to operate reliably at higher temperatures of up to 45 degrees Celsius. Systems from other manufacturers are usually only designed to operate reliably up to 35 degrees Celsius.
Expansion slots
There are seven built-in PCI-e Gen 3.0 expansion slots that can support two double-width graphics cards to accelerate the analysis of your most demanding data and provide faster and more efficient computing performance.
System management tools
Integrated and optional management tools help you get the most out of your system. For local management, OpenManage monitoring and management software is compatible with other third-party system management solutions, providing a single point of control over your network environment.
Remote system management
Remote management is accomplished through Dell's built-in iDRAC 7 Express tier management technology, which comes standard, eliminating the need for additional software.
