DESCRIPTION

This volume describes the Chippendale Period in English furniture tracing the history of Thomas Chippendale and his contemporaries including Thomas Sheraton and Thomas Shearer.

Thomas Chippendale was a cabinet maker in London who designed in the mid-Georgian, English Rococo and Neoclassical styles. According to the Victoria and Albert Museum his styles and designers were so influential that "Chippendale' became a shorthand description for any furniture similar to his Director designs" that were published in his book The Gentleman and Cabinet Maker's Director.

With fourteen plates and a frontispiece and extensive illustrations throughout the text by the author.
Collated, complete.
