This is a good almost whole rare spirifer brachiopod specimen with some interesting lines and winged appearance embedded in limestone matrix. It is hard to find these in this good of condition and this may be a rare type spirifer as there are many types reported. This specimen came from Upper Pennsylvanian limestone dated around 290-300 million years ago. Long ago there was a shallow sea in the Kansas City area which was on the west edge of the Pangaea continent. This stone is a surviving remnant of that era.
