This was a large brachiopod shell that become flinty stone and has been through much geologic time process. For the original limestone to become seeped with chalcedony quartz it was buried fairly deep in the Earth for a long time and then recently exposed from river erosion. This stone was found in Kansas River Valley near Bonner Springs where a half mile deep of glacial alluvial till overlies bedrock under the river. Ice Age Miocene to Pleistocene fossil bone, wood, plants, and other organisms are being found. Also are stones from previous eras; such as the limestone bedrock in this area dated at 290-300 million years from the shallow Seas which were once in Kansas City. This is a natural stone for collection, study, display, or other purpose.
