Sir William Beach Thomas (1868–1957) was a highly regarded writer on English rural themes, especially up to and including WW2. The subtitle of this 1st edition (1936) illustrated book is 'A survey of the Sport [Hunting] and of its Chief Grounds'. It is a scholarly book which traces the history of hunting with hounds in England, quoting from literature as far back as the 14th century, and is illustrated with reproductions by some of the greatest sporting artists from the 18th century onwards, including Seymour, Alken, Wolstenholme and Ferneley.
