Definition:A vehicle's water pump is a belt-driven pump that derives its power from the engine's crankshaft. Designed as a centrifuge, the water pump draws the cooled fluid through the pump's center inlet from the radiator. It then circulates the fluid outward into the engine and back into the car's cooling system
Location:The water pump is always located near the serpentine belt, timing belt, or timing chain since it is powered by one of them. This means that it is also installed at the front of the engine.
Symptoms of a Bad Water Pump:
1. Leaking of Coolant
2. Squealing Noise
3. Water Pump’s Axle lose
4. Overheating Engine
5. White Smoke From The Radiator
6. Unstable Engine temperature
How to Replace a Water Pump:
1.Begin with a completely cooled engine, then disconnect the negative battery post.
2.Drain your coolant into a catch pan by loosening the petcock on the bottom of the radiator
3.Remove the parts above the water pump
4.Remove the old water pump. Pay attention to the length of the bolts as you remove them because they might not all be the same.
5.Make sure all surfaces, including the pump mounting surfaces, are clean and free of old water pump gasket material and adhesives before reassembly.Coolant leaks may result if mating surfaces are not clean.
6.Test-fit the water pump and visualize assembly before proceeding
7.Install the new water pump
8.Reinstall all removed components
