A very carefully and beautifully hand-carved Luba helmet mask . The Luba people or Baluba are an ethnolinguistic group indigenous to the south-central region of the Democratic Republic of Congo.  A delightful helmet mask with intricately carved features.  The long, crescent-shaped eyes and the flat beard on the chin suggest it was likely carved by the Luba people.  Mask is equipped with a custom base for immediate display.  The Luba are an ancient people, having established themselves in their homelands late in the 16th century. They continued to flourish as a major regional power until late in the 19th century. Though no longer a powerful kingdom, Luba art continues to enchant and inspire art lovers around the globe. The mask is approximately 13 inches high,8 inches wide, and 12 inches deep.
