This gorgeous box was purchased in the English countryside while antiquing. It's in pristine condition free from all blemishes!

This imagine captures the story of the Russian fairy tale about the "Firebird". A dangerous and beautiful creature who glows as bright as fire embers, and whose capture is both doom and glory for the recipient. The feathers do not cease glowing if plucked and to remove a feather is said to light a large room. 

That lovely story is depicted on the lid of this beautiful black lacquer box.  It is adorned in hand painted gold trim. This box is hinged. The interior is red lacquer.  It is signed and dated, and to the best of my abilities I do believe it's dated in the 1970's... but I leave that up to your expertise.
