1949 Gretsch Synchromatic Model 100 6014 Gloss Sunburst Finish Archtop Acoustic Guitar Used - Fair, but Playable Condition
This fine, vintage specimen of guitar history is the Gretsch Synchromatic Model 100. Manufactured from 1939 to 1955 when it was renamed the Corsair, this Model 100 was made in 1949. With its 16-inch wide body, the Model 100 was part of Gretsch's American Orchestra Series and features the stairstep bridge on a carved spruce top along with an arched maple back and maple sides. The original harp tailpiece is missing and has been replaced with a trapeze tailpiece. Other features on this acoustic guitar include a maple neck, rosewood fretboard, and chrome open-gear tuners with black buttons, although one of the tuners has been replaced with non-original open-gear tuner with a white button. Cosmetically this guitar has some obvious issues, the binding around the fretboard is completely missing, the binding around the body and around the pickguard is lifting up in some places, the neck heel has cracks on both sides, and the low E-string is quite buzzy when played open. On the playability side the neck is straight, the action is low, and this guitar sounds fantastic (just watch out for that open Low-E!) and looks like a vintage guitar should look like!
Cosmetic and Functionality Description Body: the binding around the body is lifting up in some places, plus it has a drastically aged tint to it; the top, back, and sides all show some scuff marks and scratches as well a few dings and dents, plus there is some really checking in the lacquer--moderate buckle rash; the pickguard has an obvious worn spot in it as well as some scratches from typical playing, plus the binding is starting to separate in a couple of areas
Neck, Fretboard, and Headstock: the binding around the fretboard is completely missing; the fretboard has some scuff marks and small areas of wear in the finish, plus there are some shallow dips in the fretboard before the first two frets; the neck heel has cracks on both sides, however there is no neck heel separation; the back of the neck has plenty has plenty of checking in the lacquer as well as some chips in the lacquer with the biggest one at almost the center between the 5th and 6th fret positions; the headstock has some easily noticeable wear in the finish and some obvious scuff marks, scratches, and scrapes that can be seen on the front, back, and sides, plus the binding is missing from the sides of the overlay although it is still in place across the top Action and Playability: the action is low and is only buzzy if you play the low E-string open, otherwise the guitar play great; the neck is straight and the is no neck heel separation
Frets: moderate to heavy wear with some small grooves on the mid to lower frets, however there is no buzz or fret out caused by these grooves
Hardware: the original harp tailpiece is missing and has been replaced with a trapeze tailpiece that obvious looks newer than the rest of the guitar and hardware; the tuners show some obvious rust spots, but function flawlessly, plus one of the tuners has been replaced but share the same cosmetic condition as the rest; the bridge has a few small scratches and scuff marks on it
