I have owned this large Italian Majolica planter/jardinière since 1984 and it has been part of my majolica collection ever since. I purchase it from an estate sale at the time. I imagine it was made in the 1950s-1960's. It does not have any cracks or crazing, but it does have some chips on the glaze. In a way ... that's a good thing because you now can see the red clay underneath which helps authenticate that it is real majolica. This is an easy fix with some nail polish if you cared to repair it. Also the slip didn't cover the entire interior of the planter, which is an oversight of the potter. I always enjoyed this jardinière because of the bold colors and unique shape. It has never held a plant or taken on water. Just a nifty piece of folk pottery!
