This is mostly agatized petrified wood with translucent quality amber color and dark rind. Quartz seeped into the wood over thousands to millions of years to replace the wood with stone. This stone was found in Kansas River Valley near Bonner Springs where a half mile deep of glacial till overlies bedrock under the river. Ice Age Miocene to Pleistocene fossil bone, wood, plants, and other organisms are being found. Also are stones from previous eras; such as the limestone bedrock in this area dated at 290-300 million years from the shallow Seas which were once in Kansas City. This is a natural stone for collection, display, study, lapidary, or other purpose.
