DESCRIPTION
With a large folding plate to the frontispiece, being a section across Europe from The North of Scotland to the Adriatic. The frontispiece is in a lovely condition.
This work follows the proceedings of the first two meetings of what is now the British Science Association. The association was founded in 1831 and the York meeting was the first one. The Society aids in the promotion and development of science.
This work contains a reprint of the Report of the Meeting at York in September 1831 and a specimen of the results furnished by the Meeting at Oxford in June 1832. The 1831 meeting was chaired by Viscount Milton, the President of the Yorkshire Philosophical Society. The 1832 meeting was chaired by Reverend Dr William Buckland. The Association had four sections at this point, Physics, Chemistry, Geology and Natural History.
Following the meeting proceedings there are reports titled, 'Report on the Progress of Astronomy during the Present Century', a 'Report on Tides', a 'Report on the present State of our Knowledge of the Science of Radiant Heat', 'Report on Thermo-electricity', 'Report on the recent Progress of Optics'. There are also sections on Mathematics, Optics, Acoustics, Magnetism, Chemistry, Meteorology, Geography, Zoology, Botany and Arts.
A scarce work, particularly in this condition.
