This book is a faithful restoration of these vintage books." To the best of our knowledge this are the only reprinted editions to be found in the marketplace. Both books were selected as being among the very best Victorian ABC books that were popular at the turn of the century.

"Pretty Names" is dated 1899 and was published by the Mc Loughlin Bros of New York. They were active from 1828 to 1920, the New York publishing firm Mc Loughlin Brothers pioneered color printing techniques for children's books. They specialized in retellings of classic children's stories and the best artists of their time produced the Victorian art.

"Little Darlings" is dated 1899 and was published by the Mc Loughlin Bros of New York. They were active from 1828 to 1920, the New York publishing firm Mc Loughlin Brothers pioneered color printing techniques for children's books. They specialized in retellings of classic children's stories and the best artists of their time produced the Victorian art.

Books were published by Raphael Tuck & Sons 1866-early 1900's in London. They published this series of children's books that were illustrated by some of the best artists of the age. The headquarters was destroyed during the war and the original art was lost. The company never fully recovered.

In book six, Tammy writes, "As you might imagine, an opossum, a mongoose, and a bird cannot read at all; although I had taught Zeke and Cedric to write their names. They had learned the first four letters of the alphabet from an ABC book Lord Wixby had given me. I was proud of them. After all, how many animals would ever want to read?"

Several books were discovered in the shed along with the diary including theseis two books. We imagine that Tammy used these books to teach Cedric and Zeke to read. We have restored them to their original beauty and hope that others may learn and enjoy from it. Look for other ABC books in this series.  Note the first four illustrations are from this book and the others are from other books in the series.
