This is a truly lovely 1940s pattern for you to knit for three sizes of doll. For a 16 inch doll there is a dress with moss stitch borders and embroidery round the base (straight stitch is used for the embroidery), petticoat, knickers and vest. For a 20 inch doll a dress with embroidery on the bodice (lazy daisy stitch, French knot and straight stitches) and for a bay doll (size of baby doll not given) there is a complete layette of dress, petticoat, vest and pilch with additional patterns for an outdoor set comprising of matinee coat and bonnet. 

All items with the exception of the 16 inch doll dress, knickers and vest which are knitted in 'Shetland Wool' were originally constructed from 2-ply yarn, but the tension and needles used for the Shetland wool are the same as the items constructed in 2-ply so I would treat this wool as a vintage 2-ply. However, you may wish to try modern 3-ply for these items as vintage wools were heavier than modern, but do work a tension square first to see if a change of needles is needed especially  if knitting for the 16 inch doll. There is no tension given for the baby doll bonnet and crochet is needed to finish off and make up some items. A wonderful straightforward vintage pattern in every way for dressing vintage and vintage style dolls!
