Rivarossi 5427 Union Pacific FEF-3 No. 835 4-8-4 steam locomotive in HO scale, finished in Union Pacific two-tone grey.

I originally purchased this as a restoration and DCC/sound conversion project. The intention was to replace the locomotive motor and modify the tender to accommodate DCC/sound equipment, but the project was never completed.

The tender has previously been opened and modified. The rear portion of the original tender body has been cut/damaged and is incomplete, as clearly shown in the photographs. The rear tender panel is present separately, along with the other tender components shown.

The locomotive itself is substantially complete and presents well cosmetically for its age, but I have not completed the intended mechanical work or tested it sufficiently to sell it as a working model. It should therefore be assumed to require inspection, servicing and/or repair by its next owner.

Included with the lot are:

• Rivarossi 5427 Union Pacific FEF-3 No. 835 locomotive
• Original centipede tender and associated loose components
• Original Rivarossi red box and foam packaging
• Original instructions / technical paperwork and warranty card
• Four Microscale Union Pacific HO-scale decal sets:

* 87-1323 – Union Pacific Two-Tone Grey steam locomotive decals – opened but unused
* 87-63 – Union Pacific steam locomotive decal set
* 87-1351 – Union Pacific steam locomotive indicator/numeral decals
* 87-1563 – Union Pacific steam locomotive decal set

* Revell HO-scale Big Boy donor tender components, consisting of three separate parts as photographed, intended to provide donor body components for the restoration project

The Revell tender components and Microscale decal sheets were acquired specifically to assist with rebuilding and refinishing the Rivarossi tender. Microscale set 87-1323 has been opened, but the decals themselves are unused. The remaining decal sets are supplied as photographed.

The Revell tender is supplied only as the three separate parts shown in the photographs and is not an assembled or complete tender. I cannot guarantee the completeness of every individual donor/detail component beyond what is shown in the photographs.

Because of the unfinished modifications and unknown mechanical requirements, this model is being sold strictly as a restoration project / spares or repair.

A potentially very worthwhile project for a Union Pacific or American HO modeller looking to restore one of Rivarossi’s substantial FEF-3 models.
