Up for sale is a rare, historically significant piece of maritime history: an original 12" x 12" interlocking rubber-linoleum floor tile salvaged from the RMS Olympic, the famous sister ship to the RMS Titanic.
This specific geometric tile design featuring the large octagonal frame and center insert was famously used in the Second Class public spaces and corridors of the legendary White Star Line vessel.
Provenance & History: When the RMS Olympic was decommissioned and broken up in 1935, large quantities of her interior fittings were sold at auction. A massive lot of these durable tiles was purchased and installed on the workshop floors of the Akzo Nobel/Crown Berger paint factory in Haltwhistle, England. They remained there underfoot for decades until being meticulously salvaged and sold to collectors in the early 2000s.
Condition Report: This tile is in 100% original, as-salvaged condition with no modern restorations. Please review the high-resolution photographs carefully to assess the condition:
Features authentic weathering, superficial scuffs, and age-related crazing appropriate for a 115-year-old marine relic.
There is a hairline crack running across the center octagonal piece.
Minor chipping along the perimeter/interlocking tabs, with one larger chunk missing from the bottom corner as pictured.
Despite the wear, the tile remains structurally sound, holds together tightly, and displays beautifully.
This is an incredible, tactile connection to the Gilded Age of ocean travel and a must-have centerpieces for any Titanic, White Star Line, or maritime history enthusiast.
