FACTORY SEALED | EARLY VARIANT 2 PACKAGING | POTENTIAL SHADOWLESS
Five visible packaging clues. One original 1999 Brushfire deck. A documented Shadowless possibility.
Offered for sale is an original Wizards of the Coast Pokémon Base Set BRUSHFIRE Theme Deck, featuring the classic Charmeleon and Nidorino artwork.
This vintage collectible remains sealed in clear shrink-wrap packaging and displays several characteristics associated with early Shadowless-capable theme decks.
Rather than simply claiming "Potential Shadowless," I encourage collectors to examine the actual photographs and the evidence below.
CLUE #1 — BLUE "THEME DECK" LETTERING
Examine the front photograph directly beneath the green BRUSHFIRE logo.
The words "THEME DECK" are printed in dark blue.
Collectors have documented differences in lettering colors among early Base Set theme deck packaging variations.
This detail contributes to identifying the packaging configuration.
CLUE #2 — ORIGINAL "10 DAMAGE COUNTERS" WORDING
Look at the photograph of the back panel.
Under "In this box you'll find," the original packaging states:
"10 damage counters"
Later packaging variations simply stated "damage counters," without specifying the quantity.
Your photographs clearly show the original numbered wording, consistent with early packaging configurations.
CLUE #3 — CHARMELEON IN FRONT OF THE ENERGY CARDS
Examine the rectangular product illustration on the back of the box.
Notice that the featured Charmeleon card is positioned IN FRONT OF the Grass and Fire Energy cards.
This is especially interesting.
Collector research identified a later packaging variation that positioned the featured Pokémon behind the Energy cards instead.
Your deck displays the earlier, front-positioned Charmeleon artwork.
CLUE #4 — ORIGINAL COLORED DAMAGE COUNTERS
Look immediately above the three cards in the same back-panel illustration.
You can clearly see the colored blue and yellow damage counters surrounding the Pokémon coin.
Later packaging variations removed these counters from the illustration.
Their presence, combined with the original wording and card placement, identifies this as the packaging configuration collectors classify as Variant 2.
CLUE #5 — CLEAR HORIZONTAL SHRINK-WRAP SEAM
Examine the front and back close-up photographs.
The deck displays clear wrapping with a visible horizontal seam.
Collectors have documented original Base Set theme decks with gold pull strips, clear horizontal seams, and vertical wrapping configurations.
This deck does not have the distinctive gold pull strip associated with the earliest Shadowless examples.
However, Shadowless Brushfire decks have been documented in clear-wrapped packaging without the gold strip.
The wrapping, combined with the other four clues, makes this deck worthy of closer examination.
A well-known collector study titled "A Guide to Understanding Shadowless Theme Decks," published on Elite Fourum, examined actual Base Set theme deck openings.
The study documented the following results for Brushfire Variant 2 packaging:
7 documented openings:
3 contained Shadowless cards
4 contained Unlimited cards
This established that Shadowless cards were genuinely found inside this packaging variation.
Subsequent research by collector TCAGaming also identified the internal position of the card stack as an important indicator.
Decks with their card stacks positioned toward the top of the box were more frequently associated with Shadowless contents in those documented openings.
These are historical observations from small samples, not reliable probabilities for this particular deck.
YES — Shadowless contents are a documented possibility for this early packaging variation.
This particular deck visibly exhibits the defining exterior characteristics of the original Variant 2 classification.
However, the deck remains sealed, and the actual cards have not been inspected.
IMPORTANT COLLECTOR DISCLOSURE:
This item is NOT guaranteed Shadowless or First Edition.
The contents may be Shadowless or Unlimited. The internal card-stack position has not been confirmed.
The possibility of Shadowless cards is based on published collector research and the visible packaging characteristics, not on inspection of the cards inside.
