Telephoto Prime Design
The Canon Lens 135mm f/3.5 is a compact telephoto lens for Canon's Leica-thread-mount (L39/LTM) rangefinder system, offering a moderate telephoto reach well suited to portrait and general telephoto work. First introduced in 1953 as the Serenar 135mm f/3.5 and rebranded Canon from 1958 onward, the optical design remained unchanged for over two decades of production (through 1975), with later runs differing only in cosmetic details such as barrel finish and distance-scale markings.

Optical Construction
This lens uses a compact 4-element, 3-group optical formula, prioritizing a lightweight, portable telephoto design well suited to handheld portrait and travel use.

Leica Screw Mount (L39/LTM) Compatibility
The lens mounts via the standard 39mm Leica screw thread (L39/LTM), fitting directly onto Canon's own rangefinder camera bodies as well as Leica thread-mount bodies, and onto Leica M-mount bodies with a simple adapter. Because 135mm falls outside the viewfinder frame lines of most rangefinder bodies, this lens was typically paired with a dedicated accessory finder for accurate composition.

Manual Focus Helicoid
Focus is controlled through a manual focus helicoid, providing direct control over focus distance for telephoto composition, coupled to the camera's rangefinder mechanism when mounted on a compatible body.
