This is a luxury First edition of "The Merrie Days Of England" ( sketches of the Olden time) by Edward McDermott, published in 1859 by William Kent.

The book features 20 antique engravings by Joseph Nash, Birket Foster, George Thomas and Edward Corbould, depicting the history and art of England.

Fine binding , Octavo , original cloth with glorious tooling and applied gilding . The cover is in lovely condition with fairly minor bumping to spine and edges

Internally, the edge gilding is still glossy and vibrant . There is some loosening of a few pages in the middle section which would benefit from attention . Otherwise light browning and foxing associated with normal aging .

Overall this is a high quality weighty volume with absolutely beautiful detailed engravings . A wonderful Victorian collector’s item .
