An original wooden printer’s type case, once used in a traditional letterpress print workshop to organise individual letters, numbers, punctuation and spacing pieces.
This is a particularly lovely example, with its original arrangement of many differently sized compartments and a proper old metal drawer pull. It has been gently cleaned, then carefully nourished with teak oil and wax—enough to bring out the warmth of the wood while preserving the wonderful dark, timeworn workshop patina that makes it so special.
Today it is a brilliant piece of industrial history for a wall display, whether used for tiny treasures, thimbles, miniature ceramics, curiosities, craft materials, jewellery or small collections. It would look striking in a creative studio, home office, hallway or eclectic living space.
Measures approximately 50cm x 32cm. Please see photographs for the full layout and condition.
There is historic wear, rubbing, ink-darkened areas, surface marks and areas of loss/wear to some compartment bases, all entirely in keeping with its age and former working life. The divisions remain in place, but some have edges worn or shortened and it displays beautifully. The back wood has a split and a small gap, all shown in the photographs. This is a very interesting, well used piece with bags of character & charm…perfect for a really authentic display for your home!
This is not a modern reproduction; it is a characterful original with real history.
