The Doors - The Doors (1967 Debut Album)
Elektra EKS-74007 (Stereo) · 1967 · LP · USA
1967 FIRST PRESSING · FACTORY SEALED
First pressing evidence
The Doors' debut was repressed many times on the same EKS-74007 catalog number, so the number alone doesn't prove anything. The jacket text does. This copy shows the details that separate the 1967 first issue from later pressings:
- "Alabama Song (Whisky Bar)" credited to (Weill-Brecht, Witmark ASCAP) on the back cover. Later jackets, including modern reissues, changed this publisher credit to Harms. Collectors treat Harms-credit copies as second pressings or later. The Witmark credit is the original 1967 credit.
- No RIAA Gold Record Award seal printed on the front cover. The album went gold in 1967, and later jackets (including the 1970 red-label era) carry a printed gold-award seal on the front. This cover is clean: the jacket was printed before the award.
- Original 1967 Elektra back cover: "Elektra Records · 1855 Broadway · New York, N.Y. 10019 · 2 Dean Street · London W.1", with Produced by Paul A. Rothchild / Production Supervisor Jac Holzman, Engineering Bruce Botnick, Front Cover Photo Guy Webster, Back Cover Photo Joel Brodsky, Art Direction & Design William S. Harvey.
- Original "big E" Elektra logo with EKS-74007 (stereo) on the front, back and spine.
- Other original credits as printed: "Back Door Man (W. Dixon & C. Burnett, Arc Music BMI)" and "Words & music to all songs by The Doors (unless otherwise indicated) © Copyright Nipper Music ASCAP".
Includes Break On Through (To The Other Side), Soul Kitchen, The Crystal Ship, Twentieth Century Fox, Alabama Song, Light My Fire, Back Door Man, I Looked At You, End Of The Night, Take It As It Comes and The End.
Condition
Factory sealed in the original shrink wrap and never opened. Because it is sealed, the record, its labels and the dead-wax/matrix numbers have not been seen. The first-pressing identification above comes from the jacket text and markings shown in the photos. Original Big Daddy's $4.99 price sticker on the front shrink. Vintage sealed jackets may show shelf wear, ring wear or seam stress under the shrink. Please review every photo - they are part of the description.
Shipping
Ships in a proper LP mailer with stiffeners.
