Distagon Optical Design
The Contax 25mm f/2.8 MMJ uses a Zeiss Distagon retrofocus optical formula engineered for the Contax/Yashica mount, allowing a wide 25mm angle of view while maintaining sufficient rear clearance for SLR mirror movement. The Distagon layout was Zeiss's solution to adapting wide-angle lenses to reflex cameras, correcting for the distortion and vignetting that simple wide-angle designs suffer from at short focal lengths.
T* Multi-Coating
This lens is finished with Zeiss's T* multi-layer coating, which reduces internal reflections and flare across multiple air-to-glass surfaces. T* coating was a defining feature of the Contax/Zeiss lens lineup developed for the Contax/Yashica system introduced in the late 1970s.
MMJ Production Designation
The MMJ designation indicates this lens was manufactured in Japan for the Contax/Yashica mount system, following the multi-coated optical standard applied across the Zeiss-designed Contax lens lineup of this era. Manual Focus Helicoid
