Vintage J. Sklar Ives-Fansler Rectal Speculum / Anoscope with Matching Obturator
Up for sale is a unique and complete vintage medical instrument: an Ives-Fansler style rectal speculum/anoscope manufactured by the legendary J. Sklar Manufacturing Company. This classic proctological tool is a two-piece assembly, featuring the slotted outer viewing sheath along with its original, fitted internal insertion guide (obturator).
Item Markings & Details:
- Manufacturer: J. Sklar Mfg. Co. (Stamped with the historic Sklar crown-and-shield maker mark emblem on the handle base).
- Part Stamping: The outer speculum sleeve handle is stamped with the size number "5". The corresponding removable obturator handle is stamped with a matching inventory or assembly line number "2".
- Design: Features a perpendicular grooved handle for steady finger traction, an angled outer viewing slot for clinical instrumentation access, and a rounded bullet tip on the obturator for smooth mechanical insertion.
- Material: High-polish chrome or nickel-plated steel construction.
Condition Parameters:
- Structural Status: The two individual pieces slide together perfectly and sit completely flush. The tip aligns tightly as originally engineered.
- Cosmetic Condition: Shows moderate signs of clinical use, sterilization history, and age-related storage. The exterior chrome plating displays heavy micro-scratching, faint scuffs, and typical surface dulling. There is minor dark oxidation scale and light surface spotting tucked inside the crevices of the handles, the interior shell track, and along the flat inner edges of the obturator blade. There is no heavy structural rust pitting or metal compromises.
