YAMAHA L12-50 CUSTOM 1981 Vintage Acoustic Guitar Made in Japan

Description

The Yamaha L series is a tradition. The L-31 was released in 1974 as a high-end, handcrafted model, followed the next year, 1975, by the L-51 through L-54, known as the "Four Heavenly Kings of the L Series." Five years after the release of these four, in 1980, the L-55 was released as the pinnacle of the L series, the flagship model. At the same time, the L12-50, the top-of-the-line 12-string model in the L series, was also released! This is a representative Yamaha 12-string model, utilizing all the technology available at the time and the finest materials!

Its sound is a brilliant and sparkling 12-string sound! The harmonics and brilliance of the secondary strings are emphasized, allowing you to enjoy a beautifully expansive sound. However, because it has a solid spruce/rosewood body, the lows and mids are also well-defined, producing a deep, three-dimensional sound. The nut width is a slightly wider 46mm, but even when using it as a 6-string guitar by removing the secondary strings, you can still enjoy a high-quality acoustic sound. Furthermore, this particular instrument has an aftermarket L.R. Baggs Lyric PU installed, making it ready for live performances and recording!

The instrument's condition is remarkably clean considering its age; while there are a few minor scratches here and there, there are no major scratches that are noticeable even from a distance. However, there is one unfortunate point: during the endpin jack installation, the end piece cracked and the wood peeled slightly. It has now been securely repaired with adhesive, so there are no concerns about its strength, but it's a shame that the end piece cracked when the instrument is otherwise so beautiful. The repair is solid, with touch-ups and polishing, so there are no surface irregularities and it feels smooth to the touch. You can only really see the crack in the end piece if you look very closely. Regarding scratches, there are a few tiny, shallow dents less than 1mm in size on the body top and sides, and a few minor scuffs on the back. However, most of the scratches are so minor that you wouldn't notice them unless you looked closely in the light, so I don't think anyone would be bothered by them considering it's an 80s vintage instrument. There are no noticeable scratches from the neck to the headstock, and the paint shows almost no fading overall, so I think it's in the "best condition" of any existing L12-50!

The neck is in excellent condition, perfectly straight, and the current string height at the 12th fret is surprisingly easy to play: 2.2mm for the 6th string (main string), 2.0mm for the secondary string (12th string), and 1.5mm for the 1st string. There's still plenty of height left in the saddle, which speaks to the high quality of the original woodworking. With this string height, you can understand why someone might suggest trying a 6-string version, right (lol)? The frets show almost no wear, retaining nearly 100% of their original height.

This is a superb example, arguably one of the finest 12-string guitars currently available, not just from Yamaha!

Comes with the original Yamaha top-of-the-line case.
