This is a piece of mid-century engineering: the Necchi BU Nova heavy-duty sewing machine. Precision-manufactured in Pavia, Italy, between 1952 and 1953, this legendary machine carries the distinct Serial Number: U357825.

The BU line revolutionized the sewing world as the first domestic machine to successfully integrate a robust, functional zigzag stitch without needing clumsy external attachments. The "Nova" is highly coveted by vintage collectors and textile artists alike for its incredibly smooth mechanical action, cast-iron durability, and jaw-dropping piercing power.

Industrial Capabilities: Powered by a heavy-duty, high-torque external belt system that effortlessly glides through multiple layers of heavy denim, garment leather, canvas, webbing, and upholstery fabrics.

Versatile Stitch Control: Features a lockable 0–5mm zigzag width lever, 0–6mm stitch length control.

High-Shank Setup: Uses standard high-shank presser feet, making it fully compatible with inexpensive, readily available modern industrial feet and attachments.

Standard Consumables: Operates using standard, universally available Class 15 metal bobbins and regular 15x1 (flat-sided) sewing needles.

Cosmetic Condition: Scuffs & Scratches from 75 years of normal use. There is one dent in the side chrome panel. Some “bubbling” of the black painted surface. This is not the prettiest machine, but functions well.

Negatives: This is missing the back panel that covers the oil holes. It is also missing the left/center/right stitch position lever. It is currently in the center, but can’t be moved the left or right positions.

What’s Included: Includes the machine head as pictured, foot pedal, power cord, extra bobbins & needles, and copy of original manual.

CONDITION: Good used condition. Tested and working. Watch video showing how well this machine sews even on thick leather. Scuffs & marks. Some bubbling on the paint surface. Center/left/right position lever, and back oil hole cover are missing. Please look at pictures for more on condition.
