Aircraft Overview
  • Type: Lockheed EC-130E Hercules (Model L-382), specifically modified as a Command Solo psychological operations and broadcast platform. 
  • Serial Number: 63-7828 (Construction / Manufacturer Serial Number: 382-3896). 
  • Nickname: Known in the 193rd Special Operations Squadron as the "Desert Queen". 
Service History
  • Early Years: Originally built as a C-130E and delivered to the U.S. Navy in January 1964, it was later transferred to the U.S. Air Force in January 1968
  • Unit Assignment: It flew extensively for the 193rd Special Operations Wing (SOW) out of Middletown, Pennsylvania. [1]
  • Retirement: The aircraft was decommissioned in early 2003 after logging over 28,000 flying hours—the highest total in the entire fleet at the time—making way for the newer EC-130J Command Solo II. Its final retirement flight featured signatures from many of its crew chiefs painted on the hull.
