The Stones

A near-matched pair of natural oval diamonds, 0.32 carats in total — sixteen points each. The colour is a strong, saturated canary yellow: clean and bright, with no brown or grey in it. These are the most vivid yellows we have listed in small goods and the colour is unmistakable in the hand.

Sixteen points each is a real size. Most of our small parcels run seven to twelve points; these are a third larger again, which puts them past accent territory and into the range where a single stone can properly carry a ring. Oval also faces up larger than its weight — the elongated outline spreads across more area than a round of the same carat — so they wear bigger than sixteen points suggests.

Being a pair is the other half of the value. Two stones that agree closely in size, shape and colour let you make a matched piece, which is exactly what a random parcel cannot do. Clarity is SI2 to SI3 — see the clarity note below, which we would rather you read before bidding than after.

Two strong canary ovals at sixteen points each. Big enough to be the piece, not the trim.

What To Make With Them

A near-matched pair at this size supports a coordinated piece or two substantial single ones.

Signet ring, single stone

One oval flush-set into the face of a heavy gold signet, east-west across the face for a contemporary look or north-south for a classic one. At sixteen points the stone is genuinely the point of the ring, and a strong canary reads clearly against yellow metal rather than blending into it.

Canary stud earrings

The obvious use for a pair, and the one that needs stones which agree. At this size they make substantial everyday studs with real colour — yellow diamond studs are asked for constantly and rarely available in natural stones at a sensible price.

East-west solitaire

One oval set sideways across a fine band. Among the most requested minimal designs at the moment, and a saturated yellow suits it — low, horizontal, and nothing like the round solitaire in every window.

Toi et moi ring

Both ovals side by side on one band. A near-matched pair gives the design its symmetry, and in a strong natural yellow rather than white it becomes something a buyer will not have seen elsewhere.

Minimal bezel pendant

One oval rub-over set on a fine chain, hanging lengthways, with the second kept for a matching ring. Two finished pieces from one pair, clearly related to one another.

Yellow accent in a white setting

A canary oval set among white diamonds — as a halo centre, or flanked by white pavé. Strong yellow gives contrast a pale or warm-brown stone cannot, and at sixteen points it will carry a whole piece on its own.

On metal: yellow gold is the classic pairing and deepens the colour. Because these are saturated rather than pale, they also work genuinely well in white gold and platinum — cool metal throws the yellow forward and makes it read stronger, which is why most fancy yellow rings are set that way. Rose gold softens it. Brushed and satin finishes suit them better than high polish.

About The Clarity Grade

SI2 to SI3 — Please Read Before Bidding

You should know that SI3 is not a GIA grade. The GIA scale runs SI1, SI2, then I1 — there is no SI3 on it. SI3 is a trade grade, used by parts of the industry and by some laboratories for stones that sit between SI2 and I1. It is normal terminology in the trade, but if you check it against the GIA scale you will not find it, and we would rather explain that now than have you discover it later.

What it means in practice. Inclusions are readily visible under 10x magnification and can be visible to the naked eye on close inspection, particularly in the more included of the two stones. These are not clean stones and we are not presenting them as such.

What works in their favour. Strong body colour masks a great deal — a saturated canary hides inclusions far better than a colourless stone of the same grade, which is why included fancy colour is so much more wearable than included white goods. In the hand these read considerably better than the grade alone suggests. That is a real effect, not a sales line, but it is not the same as the stones being clean.

Please study every photograph and the video before bidding, and ask us for closer images if you want them. We will send whatever you need.

Natural, And Untreated

Two Separate Guarantees

These are natural mined diamonds, not laboratory grown. Not CVD, not HPHT grown, not synthetic, not simulants. Both stones came out of the ground.

No treatment of any kind has been applied. Not irradiated, not HPHT colour treated, not coated, not painted, not laser drilled, not fracture filled, not enhanced in any other way. The colour in both stones is their own.

Our guarantee on both points: if either stone is shown by a recognised gemmological laboratory to be laboratory grown, or to have been treated in any way, return the complete pair within 30 days of delivery for a full refund including your testing costs. We will honour that without argument.

Worth knowing, and it applies with particular force to a strong clean yellow: this is precisely the colour that treated material imitates, because saturated natural yellow commands a premium and irradiated or HPHT-processed yellow is cheap to produce. None of it can be separated from natural by eye. That is exactly why we state our position as a guarantee backed by a refund rather than as a line in a description.

What We Can And Cannot Tell You

Full Disclosure

This is a pair and 0.32 carats is the total across both stones. Please do not read it as the weight of a single diamond. Each stone is around sixteen points.

Near-matched is not matched. The two agree closely enough to be used together, which is the reason to buy them as a pair — but they are not identical. One is slightly larger and the other carries slightly more colour saturation, and their clarity differs within the SI2 to SI3 range. Study the side-by-side photographs and the video, which show both stones together.

"Canary yellow" is a trade description, not a laboratory grade. It is the term the trade uses for a bright, clean yellow with no brown or grey modifier, and it describes these stones accurately — but no laboratory has assigned it. Our colour and clarity assessments are our own, made in Bangkok under standard grading conditions, and a laboratory may return different results.

Ovals carry a bow-tie. Every oval brilliant has some degree of darker band across its centre where light escapes rather than returning. It is inherent to the shape, not a fault in these stones. Look at the face-up photographs to judge it.

No cut, polish or symmetry grades are offered, and individual measurements are not published in this listing. If you need millimetre dimensions, ask and we will measure both stones before you bid — for studs or a toi et moi those measurements matter more than the carat weight.

Every photograph and the video show the actual stones under natural light without colour correction. Yellow reads stronger under incandescent light and flatter under cool daylight.

About The Facet House

The Facet House is a Bangkok-based supplier of natural diamonds and coloured gemstones. We buy at source and grade in Bangkok, and we deal only in stones we can document.

We do not sell laboratory-grown material of any kind, and we explain trade terms rather than hiding behind them — including when a clarity grade is not one a laboratory would recognise.

Contact Us

Message us through eBay for millimetre measurements of both stones, close images of the inclusions, or video under different light sources. On an SI2 to SI3 pair we would much rather answer the question now than after delivery.

We reply within 24 hours, Bangkok time. If you would prefer cleaner stones we hold VS canary and golden yellow parcels in smaller sizes, and GIA-certified fancy yellows where certification is required — just ask.
