Here I offer a DVD containing 225 high resolution scans ( 1200 dpi ) produced from an original WW2 photo album ....I have also added a few scans of the original owners RAF Service book , his birth certificate , some Christmas messages sent home while in India and a few other certificates .
The album belonged to Flight Mechanic Henry Lorraine 1371854 LAC Fitter II Airframe . The album covers Henry's service in India with 215 Squadron 1942-1945 .
The album contains 19 photos of RAF planes ..10 of which are 215 Sqd Wellington bombers ..other planes include.. a Liberator , Hudson , Mohawk , Beaufort , Dakota , Mosquito , Vickers Valentia and a De Havilland Rapide ....." All planes I have serviced"
One photo shows a line of paratroopers about to enter a Wellington . It appears that the Squadron also had a role in the training Gurkha paratroopers .
Henry is seen in many photos with other members of 215 squadron. There are also lots of photos taken of street scenes and the local people going about their daily lives in India.....some really charming photos .
The scans are much larger than the greatly reduced listing images and of course are not overwritten.
The squadron was posted to Calcutta in 1942 and was involved in bombing operations over Burma using first Vickers Wellingtons and then later, Consolidated Liberator aircraft. In April 1945 it re-equipped with the Douglas Dakota and assumed a transport squadron role for the remainder of the war
