A beautiful vintage Scandinavian sterling silver ring by Hans Henrik Nygaard, featuring an oval faceted purple stone in a simple bezel setting.
The ring has a particularly attractive design, with the central oval stone framed by a substantial silver bezel and decorative scrolling motifs running along either shoulder. The oxidised and naturally patinated recessed areas contrast beautifully against the raised silver decoration and give the piece plenty of character.
The stone is a rich purple with attractive flashes of violet and pink as it catches the light. It is believed to be amethyst, although the stone has not been professionally gemologically tested and is therefore described accordingly.
The inside of the band carries a particularly good group of marks, including 925, HHN, M A and SPINNING. HHN is associated with Danish silversmith and jewellery designer Hans Henrik Nygaard.
Approximate UK ring size: N 1/2.
The combination of the restrained oval setting, decorative shoulders and rich purple stone gives this a lovely Scandinavian vintage appearance while remaining extremely wearable.
There is surface wear, scratching, tarnishing and patination to the silver consistent with age and previous wear. The stone also shows signs of previous use under close inspection. The silver has deliberately not been heavily polished, retaining the attractive darker patination around the decorative details. Please study all photographs carefully as they form an important part of the condition description.
Please see photos for condition. Most items I sell are vintage or antique, so may have some age-related wear. I tend to leave items in the condition that I received them, as some people like the signs of age and patina. If you want to know the weight or any other info, please feel free to ask. I’m also happy to clean items if requested.
