Card is posted Dec 27, 1909 McAlester flag cancel.  Flossie is writing Bessie, she was coming up for a visit but at Caldwell she got word that an Engine had blown up at the Shops, where Mr. Cash was working.  "Oh it was terrible blowed the Shops all to pieces killed five and injured about 20.  Mr Cash is certainly hurt badly fingers on right hand broken neck scalded and head and knee hurt.  Dr. says he hurt worse than any of the rest.  Oh it's just terrible I am at the Hospital at McAlester with him"

Quite likely the disaster happened at the mine pictured on the postcard: "Samples" Coal Mine.  I believe this was Mine No. 4.  (of note though in the Dec 23, 1909 Daily Oklahoman, there is a report of an explosion at the Cougler Coal Co, McAlester.  Apparently none were killed, this doesn't seem to line up with Flossie's report).  Sadly, apparently these events were common occurrences

The Caldwell referenced likely was Caldwell Oklahoma. Pittsburg County.  It didn't yet have a post office, though it was only open 1913-1915.  Bessie (Mrs Fred Conlson), lived at 4128 Charlotte, Kansas City, Missouri.
