Here we have a fantastic original vintage, c1957, Auto Minimax Type D Major brass fire extinguisher, complete with its original, rare to find black wall mounting bracket. This is a particularly attractive example with a wonderfully aged brass finish, original Minimax T-shaped pump handle and the original detailed instructional plaque. It is marked CARBON TETRACHLORIDE HANDPUMP TYPE D’ MAJOR, 1 QT. SIZE and 1957, together with MINIMAX LIMITED FELTHAM MIDDLESEX ENGLAND and BRITISH MANUFACTURE. The original label remains in place and gives the extinguisher a great deal of character, including the original operating instructions and period safety information. This was originally intended for use in vehicles, the Type D Major was a period automotive fire extinguisher and is particularly sought after today by collectors of classic cars and automobilia. The extinguisher itself states that it complies with the Fire Offices Committee specification for public service vehicles. Minimax Limited was an important British fire extinguisher manufacturer, established in Britain in 1903, with its famous factory at Feltham, Middlesex opening in 1911. This example therefore makes a great piece of genuine industrial and automotive history. The original wall bracket is included and makes this especially suitable for display in a vintage garage, workshop, home bar, man cave or industrial-style interior. The extinguisher is empty and is being sold strictly as a vintage collectible/display item and not as functional fire safety equipment. It measures approximately 14.25 inches long by 3.25 inches wide by 3.5 inches deep, and weighs a little over 1.5kgs including the original bracket.
