HO Scale Bachmann Blue Jupiter Central Pacific Locomotive Complete
Several years ago, my father passed and I received what remained of his train collection, consisting of a few engines, some passenger and freight cars, and lots of track. However, everything had been stored away decades ago and was in poor condition so I had to learn how to repair and restore them. In time, I managed to get one of the locomotives, a Virginia & Truckee Genoa 4-4-0 Steam Locomotive & Tender set, restored and running again and I discovered an interest in restoring other locomotives of the 4-4-0 configuration. From my searches, I found that many damaged and inoperable locomotives were available and with parts and some effort, could be restored, so I turned that into my hobby: model train restorations.
So what are you getting?
While I'm partial to the V&TRR Genoa design, the Bachmann 4-4-0 design is also a nice addition to any collection. The original Central Pacific and Union Pacific designs have been followed up over the years with versions with different colors schemes and different railroad lines, but the Blue Jupiter version has always been a favorite of mine. Something about a blue locomotive on the tracks is eye-catching.
Repairs
When I received this one, like many of the cast-offs that I acquire, it didn't work. And, like many of the ones I acquire, it was because someone didn't know they did something they shouldn't have done: turned an axle in the wrong direction, crossed a wire, flipped a part. Regardless, after cleaning the locomotive, checking it from front to back and buffing up the metal parts, I tested it and got it running again! The only thing that wouldn't work was the light (sorry)...probably a blown bulb, which I didn't have a replacement for.

- This locomotive is in great condition. It did require a cleaning to remove dirt and debris from the locomotive and tender. In addition, all metal pieces were buffed to remove tarnish, corrosion and any accumulated dirt from usage over the years. The brass metal pieces were buffed to restore the original shine and the wheels and axles were buffed to improve the connectivity to the tracks for improved electrical connection.
- The pilot front (cowcatcher) portion is undamaged.
- The drive shaft between the locomotive and the tender car was present.
- All screws and bolts were tightened to ensure everything is secure.
- The main drive screw has been lubricated to ensure ease of functionality for years to come, but it is suggested that the owner periodically apply sewing machine oil (it's a lightweight oil easily acquired) to the gear every six months to a year.
- The whistle atop the rear dome closest to the Engineering cabin is still present, which is rare. Over time, this is usually the first thing that breaks.
- The rear coupler is a kadee coupler.
- The original paperwork and box are included.
- NOTE: Watch the video and you will see that the locomotive runs both forward and reverse with ease. With moderate use and care, you should receive many years of use.
Overall, a great locomotive to add to anyone's collection. I had a great time cleaning this locomotive. It runs smoothly and quiet and will look great on your track!
NOTE: Please understand this is a vintage model railroad locomotive and has been restored to function as near to what it did when it was first released. However, there is no guarantee how long it will last. With moderate usage, maintenance and care, it should continue to work for a reasonable amount of time.
