Beautiful original 1920s dressing gown or robe in lustrous ivory silk with woven gold Art Deco motifs throughout. The fabric has the softly textured character of pongee/raw silk, with a wonderful subtle sheen that changes with the light.

The gown features a rounded collar, gathered construction beneath the front and back yokes, three covered buttons at the neckline, wide sleeves, and decorative woven trim running vertically down the front. An unusual interior corded waist tie is concealed within the gown rather than encircling the exterior, emerging at the center front and terminating in elaborate silk tassels. This allows the loose silhouette to be gently drawn in while preserving the clean lines of the exterior.

The back is particularly striking, with larger geometric woven motifs and long linear detailing creating a distinctly Art Deco effect.

An elegant and highly wearable piece of 1920s loungewear with a beautifully relaxed silhouette. It would also work wonderfully worn open as an evening coat or statement layer over contemporary clothing.

The gown shows scattered age-related spots and minor discoloration. Please see last four close up photographs. It is in good condition overall and presents beautifully- the ivory and gold palette and sheen of the silk remain exceptionally attractive. Tassels show some wear and exhibit fraying (close up eleventh photo).
