Here we have a gorgeous antique English Art Deco planter made by Bretby Art Pottery. Bretby was founded in 1882 by William Ault & Henry Toothe. This is a particularly attractive example, having a wonderfully unusual stepped form with softly undulating edges. The shape and decoration have a distinctly Art Deco character and I would date this example to around the 1920's. The base is marked with the BRETBY, ENGLAND along with model number 107B. The glaze is particularly attractive, with the darker green pooling and running over the upper sections to create a wonderful textured effect, contrasting beautifully with the pale cream body. It is a nice size and would make an excellent windowsill planter, cachepot or simply a decorative piece of British Art Pottery. It measures approximately 9 inches by 5 inches by 4.5 inches high, weighing a little under 1kg. A great addition to any collection of Bretby or an Art Deco inspired interior.
