Vintage Mid-Century Anthropomorphic Big-Eye Mouse & Cheese Shaker Set - Japan
Product Description:
Up for sale is a wonderfully unique and kitschy vintage mid-century anthropomorphic mouse and cheese salt and pepper shaker novelty set. Made in Japan during the 1960s, this multi-piece set features a larger brown nesting mouse holder with massive, soulful blue eyes and vibrant red-painted ears. Tucked perfectly into its lap is a removable, freestanding bright yellow Swiss cheese wedge that functions as a standalone pepper shaker with a 3-hole configuration. Both pieces feature a beautiful high-gloss glaze finish.
Dimensions:
- Overall Set: 5 inches Tall x 3 1/4 inches Wide
Condition Details:
This nested set is in very good pre-owned vintage condition with excellent structural display value:
- Paint & Glaze: The glossy glaze remains slick and vibrant across the main bodies. The large blue eyes, red ears, and sculpted brown fur detailing are very clean with no notable paint loss. No chips, cracks, or repairs are visible on the exterior bodies.
- Bottoms & Stoppers: The unglazed base of the mouse features a clear, stamped black "JAPAN" origin mark. Both the mouse holder and the cheese wedge shaker have been fitted with clean, clear plastic replacement stoppers (original corks are missing).
- Base Note: The unglazed white base rim of the cheese wedge features a minor rough spot/tiny nick on the bottom edge. This faces the interior of the mouse holder and is completely hidden from view when the set is displayed. The cheese also shows normal manufacturing glaze skips on its inner rim.
Please review all provided photographs carefully to evaluate the overall cosmetic condition. A stellar addition to any 1960s kitsch kitchen table display or novelty shaker collection!
