Vintage 1960s Vox Conqueror Beatles Solid State Guitar Amplifier Head *Project*
I have recently cleared out an old amp tech's barn in Northern Ireland, this being one of them. Some of them are beyond economical repair for me to pay someone to fix, so I am selling them on as spares or repairs. My tech had a quick look at this and diagnosed the following - Powered up power amp using variac – no output, checked power supplies, output transistors etc. fault traced to interstage transformer driver PCB, changed various failed components. Connected preamp to power amp, normal channel dead, no reverb, no tremolo. Noted all electrolytic caps original on all PCBs. Cleaned all pots, selector switches and input jacks, checked DC supply voltages all correct. Found broken connection on reverb tank. Found several failed transistors, caps and resistors on normal channel PCB – these were replaced. Unable to get tremolo functioning, suspect footswitch (5 pin DIN) needs connecting, but not available. Recommendations: The amp is noisy, all power supply and signal coupling electrolytic capacitors are original, these should be replaced. Footswitch needed to investigate non-working tremolo. Suggest this is sold as a ‘project amp’. A good project indeed. Grab a bargain!
